Why wait for the crowd, be your own best company

To many people’s disbelief, I am a born introvert, despite working in public relations.
When all’s said and done, I need to be alone to recharge. So, when I can relax, away from the hustle and bustle of life and my day-to-day routine, being alone is normally the best gift I can give myself. Add solo traveling to that equation and I am as happy and peaceful as can be.

Solo traveling gives me the ultimate freedom. I wake up and it’s just me— what I want, where I want to go, when I want. In that freedom and infinite space of possibility, I normally find that I meet new or sometimes forgotten versions of myself.

That’s the greatest reward of solo traveling: the personal growth. Each time I go away, I learn to become a little more independent, confident, and in tune with my emotions and desires.


So, when the time came to visit a new Western Cape destination in May, I decided to do a solo road trip.
For this I decided to partner up with Wiggle Cape Town. When it comes to experiencing the journey that our beautiful Western Cape province has to offer, Wiggle and myself share the same loves. We both want an exhilarating, thrilling and unforgettable experience, something that would forever be remembered.

I decided to embark on my solo road trip to Cape Agulhus and my final destination, De Hoop Collection in a Wiggle Jeep Wrangler. I love driving alone, but have not done a solo road trip in years and this was my first for Cape Town. During this trip, I was reminded again that long hours in a car can be physically taxing when you’re the only driver, especially when you are sick too, but the compensation was that I had time to think on the open road, stopped at breathtaking destinations and listened to podcasts that fueled my soul.


Taking this solo road trip proved to me  yet again that I didn’t have to rely on other people to have a fantastic time away. But most importantly it taught me that to really be alone and be comfortable with it, is rare. I think that was the true highlight for me during this road trip, finding peace in just being by myself.
