I recently stayed at one of the most beautiful 5-star boutique hotels in South Africa. Majeka House is the perfect quiet, luxury and lavish weekend–away destination in the heart of Stellenbosch.
This owner-managed hotel features a range of luxury accommodation options, a sophisticated bar, magnificent spa and award-winning restaurant. In fact, Condé Nast Johansens pits Majeka House as the 2017 Award Winner of the Best Design Hotel in the Luxury Hotels, Spasand Venues category in South Africa.
A creative partnership with acclaimed designer Etienne Hanekom has been key to the striking aesthetic of Majeka House, where five-star facilities and warm country hospitality blend seamlessly with a cutting-edge interior design element.
Personally, I love experiencing hotels the way I love testing out new skincare products. From the thread count of bed sheets to the surrounding views, there’s an art form to creating a luxury or boutique hotel I believe. When well executed, it becomes a beautifully unique complement to its surroundings’ history and culture.
ACCOMMODATION AT MAJEKA HOUSE:
During our stay, we stayed in one of their Mountain View rooms which combines outdoor living with ingenious indoor space. The theatrical views of our own herb garden, koi-pond and majestic Stellenbosch mountains all ads to the experience that these rooms have on offer. Their artistic touch and spaciously generous atmosphere with a Victoria & Alfred bath, heated shower rails and super huge shower make these rooms an uppermost option. I was very impressed with the ultra-soft bedding, Nespresso coffee machineand a uniquely selected honesty bar.
If you’re curious about the additional room options (they have 23) be sure to visit their website for more options.
MAJEKA HOUSE SPA:
One of the most enchanting aspects of Majeka House is the spa that boasts a hydrotherapy pool as well as a Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed by their gracious, well-trained and experienced therapists that ensured that we relaxed from the word go. We opted for their Pick & Mix package where you can choose 3 out of 7 treatments for 90 min – ideal for when you want a combination of treatments over a short period.
DINING AT MAJEKA HOUSE:
Our stay started off with lunch at Majeka House’s M Lounge. The M Lounge gives visitors a warm library feel with French-inspired armchairs, and wallpapers by Halogen House. They have a concise selection of gourmet bar snacks and bistro dishes – think hand cut hips with rosemary fries or crispy calamari with a crisp cold glass of chardonnay.
Dining at Majeka House’s Makaron Restaurant makes for the perfect date night venue and by far one of the best dining experiences I have had in Cape Town. During dinner, I had the opportunity to try their new compelling new ‘small plates’ menu from Head Chef Lucas Carstens.
The menu is broken into a recommended journey of ‘Suggested Start’, ‘Followed Up By’, ‘The Serious Choice’ and ‘To Finish’. We opted for a 4 plate option with wine pairing which gave us the opportunity to curate our very own culinary experience.
Some of the dishes I can highly recommend are their langoustine mi cuit, sea butter, fermented cucumber, green curry juice and 30-day air-dried beef sirloin,“kapokbos” glaze, roasted potato puree, biltong powder.
If you’re looking for the perfect mid-week or weekend getaway, then I would highly suggest Majeka House. Just make sure your stay includes spa treatments and delicious culinary experiences, you will have no regrets!
