Whether it is luxury hotels or simply beautiful boutique hotels, I’m extremely picky about where I stay. A hotel to me would be my home away from home and the base of any travel experience.
The most important part of any hotel to me is the attention to detail, whether it comes across in their service or interior or food experience.
I have been very fortunate to have stayed at some of the most incredible hotels the past 20 years and have collaborated with great brands, but my opinions will always remain my own. Trust me, I will be just as honest if I have an amazing time and honest if I have a horrible time.
When 54 on Bath offered to host me the night before I embarked to Sao Paulo for my birthday, I did not think twice in saying “YES!”.
As the saying goes, “first impressions always matter”, well that is true about 54 on Bath.
Our room blew me away the second I entered with its luxurious details, stylish classic features that made it both modern and comfortable with a stunning view of the gardens and lap pool. We were greeted with a memorable welcome surprise as we entered the room with a delicious freshly baked chocolate brownie, some bubbles and a personalized welcome note.
The in-room comforts on offer included complimentary Wi-Fi, full mini-bar, 42inch LED television with DStv, but I was especially mesmerized by the stunning Illy espresso machine. Having a coffee machine like this in a hotel room is a wonderful alternative to the usual stash of instant coffee sachets that just tastes horrible.
Another great aspect of the room was the beds, which even comes with a pillow menu for you to select prior to arrival and high quality thread count linen.
The “wow” factor for sure was their impressive Champagne Bar that leads out into the roof garden giving panoramic views of the city, which made it the perfect lunch venue of choice.
The menu at Level Four combines classic cuisine with contemporary influences. Headed up by Executive Chef Matthew Foxon, the menu features his bold signature style and distinctive flair, ensuring a memorable culinary experience.
I also love that they pair the right wine to each meal, totally impressive!
I indulged in a delicious Tuna ‘Nicoice’ salad with fried anchovy, olives, green beans, potato & saffron emulation while my partner relished into a mouthwatering ‘Merino’ lamb cutlet on polenta pie with smoked rump, aubergine puree and asparagus while we sipped on Haute Cabriere Chardonnay Pinot Noir.
Breakfast the next morning was equally pleasant and I loved that it was not your standard buffet breakfast of choice but you could select from an a la carte menu.
However, the best part of my stay at 54 on Bath had to be the surprise in our room when I arrived back from dinner. I was welcomed by a stunning rose petal display of “Happy Birthday” on our big, soft king sized bed, refreshing apple juice and a delicious dessert for both of us. I totally love attention to detail, especially on special occasions!
I have stayed at some of Johannesburg’s top luxury hotels and I can surely say that 54 on Bath is now on the list of my top 3 best hotels. I can highly recommend it for the business traveler or luxury traveler that still wants to be based in around Sandton and close enough to Johannesburg and surrounds.
The hotel is only 300m away from the Gautrain Rosebank Station, providing us with a direct connection to O.R. Tambo International Airport, which was great as we had to be at the airport quite early the next day.
Everyone was extremely courteous and friendly from the receptionists to housekeeping and they ensured I had a wonderful pre-birthday celebration, which will forever be cherished.
